Passenger information system in Cantabria: 39 stops connected in real time

In Cantabria, the information passengers receive at stations and stops has taken a major leap forward. Busae, together with CYS (Ezentis), has deployed a passenger information system that connects stations, stops and information panels within a single network.

39 equipped stops

The deployment shows up-to-date information on departures, destinations and bus arrivals by combining TFT screens, LED matrix panels and solar-powered electronic ink devices, both at major stations and at stops across the intercity network of Cantabria.

A centrally managed passenger information network

The project connects every display within a single system: content is updated from a centralised control panel and distributed to each point connected to the network, within the Busae ITS platform. Stations and stops therefore show data adapted to their location, to the service available and to the type of display installed.

Do you want to improve passenger information across your transport network?

Busae integrates screens, panels, apps and operational data within a common platform to deliver up-to-date information at stations, stops and on buses.

More than 20 TFT screens at Santander bus station

Santander bus station has more than 20 55-inch TFT screens across the concourse and the bays, showing departures and destinations in a coordinated way. Everything is managed from the station's control panel, rather than treating each screen as a separate element.

LED panels for immediate information

The deployment includes LED matrix panels at the commuter rail station and at various points across the intercity network, designed to show the service or the expected arrival time directly, wherever passengers need to identify it quickly.

39 connected stops across the intercity network

The system extends across Cantabria through 39 stops equipped with real-time information:

  • 15 stops with LED matrix panels.
  • 24 stops with solar-powered electronic ink panels.

The solar-powered electronic ink panels bring digital information to stops spread across the network through solar-powered devices, where passengers can check bus arrivals and destinations. The key to the project is not installing screens, but connecting the points and managing the information as a single network.

The Cantabria project explained on video

The video, filmed at various locations across Cantabria, includes an interview with Orestes Cendrero, manager of Santander station, who explains how information is managed from the station and what the system brings to day-to-day operations.

Busae success story: passenger information system deployed in Cantabria.

Technology to reduce uncertainty while waiting

When passengers don't know when their bus will arrive or which bay it leaves from, waiting becomes harder. Bringing operational data closer to the station, the bay or the stop —combining TFT screens, LED panels and electronic ink to suit each environment— makes information clearer, more accessible and more useful, and the network more connected. Passengers can also check service dates and timetables online on the Transporte de Cantabria website.
